July Meetup – 21st of July Why .Net?

So our next meet up is in the Trinity Capital Hotel
the 21st of July at 7.00pm

After a lot of blog activity regarding the .Net ecosystem (OSS and from Microsoft) we need to ask ourselves Why .Net? Since this is a topic likely to be a bit controversial, links to reasonable blog posts can be posted here for reference, and the topic might be moderated by someone (maybe Mark?) Are you coming? Please register!

BTW, we tried a more discussion oriented meet up the last time and it was really interesting.
We started off discussing Web Frameworks and we went through the pros and cons of them, then we moved on to mobile devices and the future of development in those devices, heavy mention of iPhone, android, and the N900, and much more.

Hi all:

New year new format .

Basically, instead of someone responsible of presenting a topic, we are going to try this approach of discussing a topic as a group, so please read up on it and be ready to contribute.

The topic is: Web Platforms ( ie: Open Rasta, ASP.NET MVC, Monorail, FubuMVC, Webforms, etc)

How are they different?
whats good and what s bad about them?
When to use one or the other?
How about smaller frameworks?
How simple it is to host them in a different platform
… etc

Meeting review 16/07/2009 – IoC

We were talking Dependency Injection and Inversion of Control yesterday, Sean Farmar introduced the topic and the concepts behind Dependency Injection and Inversion of control and then proceeded to show Spring.net IoC container. Then I did a really short presentation on Windsor (I prepared it in 5 min before going to the meeting to cover for franklin, since he was sick and due to present this in a more complete way)

Both presentations and sample code will be available later in our brand new repo http://code.google.com/p/irelandaltnet If you want to commit something to it (ie older presentations), please just contact us (twit, comment here, etc).

I also committed the layout of the Windsor presentation, that comes from the guys from the Scotish Alt Net.
